My computer is an E Machines (please don't poke fun) T3085. It has (according to the sticker on the front) a 3000+ AMD Anthlon XP Processor, 160 GB hard drive, and 512MB DDR SDRAM. It has two drives, one is a CD-ROM and the other is my CD/DVD Burner which has recently died after giving me 2 wonderful years. As a graduation present I got a new burner. It's brand is LG (or Life's Good?). According to the box it is a 16x Super Multi DVD/CD Rewriter (the product number or whatever on the box is GSA-4166B). I have a few questions

Will I be able to use this burner with my computer?

Can someone give me instructions on the installation or should I save up money to pay for it (I'm on a very limited income and I don't have mommy and daddy to buy me everything like many other college students around here)?

Since the drive that has the burner that is not working still reads dvds should I keep it and have the new one installed in place of the CD-ROM drive or just take out the old burner and replace it with the new one?

What is this master/slave thing I keep hearing about from my friends and how do I know what to do with that?

Thank you all in advance for your help, it is much appreciated.

    Unpulg power.
Take cover off left side(two screws in back).
Once cover is off TOUCH your hand's to metal of case to discharge any static elec.in your hands.
Remove first plug Power(off-white plug with Red,Yellow,Black wires).
Remove next plug (Flat gray ribbon) Grab plug close to DVD Drive and work back and forth.
Remove two screws on side of Drive--
    Drive should slide out front.
If it won't slide out, you might have to remove the right side cover and remove two screws other side of drive.
On the back side of old drive there is a small jumper--look to see were it is set (Master,Slave Ect.).
Set your new drive the same way.(I use small tweezers to pull Jumper out).
Install your new drive in reverse order.
Be carefull not to knock any other plugs loose.
Good luck, soon you'll be digging in the case all the time.
If you need more help, just post. Me or someone else will help. Chuck:)

In case you don't know, the jumper is a small switch. The knob will line up with "M" or "S". Line the new one up with the same letter as your old one.

Well, I got the burner in fine but then I started cleaning out some dust/cat hair and unplugged some wires  but luckily my boyfriend figured it out when he got home. Thanks a lot for the help I never would have been brave enough to try that on my own and seeing the inside of the computer was awesome! I just wish I knew more about it and what each thing in there is! lol Anyways... Thanks a lot!!
