I had a hard drive crash for my Toshiba Satellite Pro and bought a new 500GB hard drive to replace it. I installed the disk and ran the Toshiba Recovery disks. When it came to the spot asking about how large of a drive space I wanted, I said 200GB. Everything went great, Machine came back to life but I now have 300 GB of a hard drive in la-la land. How do I recover that space short of deleting everything on the hard drive and doing another recovery????????????

Hard Drive is a Serial ATA if that matters.

    Greetings, JoyKat.

What operating system and service pack # are you running?

Sounds like you created only one partition of 200gb - you need to create a second partition with the 300gb, and format that partition.

    JoyKat,

Caliban is correct, and if you are wondering how to go about formatting (and gaining access to) your remaining 300G, you have two options:

    Option 1:
    1. Access the drive manager in computer management. (Control Panel->Computer Management->[click on disk management on the left tab]).
    2. You'll see the C drive with 200G capacity and then 300G of unallocated space. Right click on the unallocated space and click format. Follow any instructions and you'll have access to the remaining 300G by way of a new partition on your HDD.

    Option 2:
Use partitioning software if you want to adjust your partition sizes and/or format any unallocted drive space. One free program that works great that I've used recently is Easeus Partition Manager which can be found/downloaded at http://www.partition-tool.com/personal.htm

    Good luck.

Thanks for the help - Vnums - your option 1 was all I needed to do to find the space. :)

Now I plan to go out to Major Geeks and follow all of the recommendations to make sure I don't download trash onto the new hard drive.
