INstalling new heatsink/fan

I just yesterday bought a new heatsink/fan, I took off the old one's. and put on the thermal glue and put on the new one's. But now my computer just keeps making the rebooting noise. It just keeps rebooting. Before the screen display's anything and such. I put the CPU in the only way it can go, I pusheed the metal bar down, I locked it in place. but the computer just keeps restarting.What should I do?

 

How was old heatsink attached? I have heard of people damaging pins when heatsink is held on with a thermal pad and they twist and pull on it to get it off. Remove CPU and look at pins for bent or damaged pins. They can be very carefully straightened slipping an empty pen tip over them if only one or use a credit card if a row is bent. Also if too much thermal paste is applied it may ooze out and drop onto CPU and short out circuit on board, this is especially true when using thermal paste like Artic Silver.

 

What I'd consider doing (assuming you have time before it reboots), is go straight into the Bios and into the PC Health section (your Bios should have a similarly named section), and watch the CPU temperature. It's possible that you've used too much or not enough thermal paste, and your CPU is hitting high temps and rebooting as a safety measure. Watching the temp in the Bios is the easy way to see if this is indeed the case.

 

NOpe, THe screen doesn't even appear on it. It doesn't have any time to load anything yet. I will try to see if the pins are bent or if the paste is on the board, but I didn't see any bent pins before.
