Installing old HD on new computer...

Hey guys,

I'm giving my old Windows 98 desktop to my friends family, minus theCD rom drive and harddrive. They have a HD full of their stuff they want on the new computer I'm giving them, and they have a CD rom drive I can install as well. They had Win 98 as an OS on their computer too.

Will there be any problems installing a new harddrive on a computer if i just simply swap them out? They had the same OS and everything, so I dont' see the problem. And the CD-ROM drive will be swapped out effortlessly as well, correct? =P

Correct me if I'm wrong, just want to know how much of a hassle it'll be to get their info on their new computer. Thanks!

Unless they are the same I would install the appropriate drivers first. Just to make sure you have them on there. So, when it boots it can find all the hardware...

 

Windows probably will have to be reinstalled.
Even though you both have win 98 on HDD, Your pc and thiers have different hardware/drivers/etc. so just swaping HDD's wont work.
You can swap HDD's, but due to differances, most likely would not boot.

 

actually, there is a great little software out there for such things I believe that it is called PC Relocator.......... I think it is around 100 bucks...

 

Just go for it, the machine will have a complete headfit and ask you for drivers etc, assuminig you have the drivers then go ahead an install them. If you don't have the drivers then either a) get them fom the net or b) don't do it!
