Can anyone walk me through installing sata hdd?
My mobo is Asus A7V880 which support sata but didn't come with a floppy disk. I'm running win xp pro. My ami BIOS detected the new hdd but windows did not.
    Can you help?

thats strange, if it shows up in your bios i have no idea why it would not be showing up in windows. generally its just a matter of connecting the second hdd to the connector in the middle of the data cable, setting the hdd to slave and connecting the power cable and it should work.

You need the sata drivers on a floppy, they will be on your MOBO cd (There is probably a read me file on the MOBO cd with instructions) or can downlosd from Asus web:
    http://support.asus.com/download/download.aspx?SLanguage=en-us
If the sata drivers are in a zipped file you need to unzip them first then apply to floppy.
Some MOBO cd simply have file marked F6, which ya click on then will load to a blank floppy.
Each brand of mobo is a little different.

Asus is right you need the sata drivers,if you are using this drive as your boot drive, you will have to install the drivers just before you get to the main wiondows install screen from a floppy. ;)

Or perhaps set the sata drive as an IDE instead of "Raid" in the bios. I've ran into this situation with gigabyte boards. Once I set the SATA as IDE, the drive worked great without any drivers.

    Another Note!
In Bios set Boot order too:
    CD first
SATA second, If sata is not an option them it may be SCSI or HDD (It varies from brand to brand)( lot's of BIOS you have to enable SATA)
    Floppy third

    Then insert windows CD
    Reboot
Then Follow message, Press any key to boot from CD
At the beginning of windows install set up at bottom of screen message Press F6 for third party drivers ( Your sata/raid drivers on floppy are third party drivers!)( if you dont press F6 at the right time you will have to run windows setup again, you only have a couple seconds to do so)
Then follow onscreen instructions, eventaully you will be asked for the floppy containing your sata drivers, again follow instructions.

During install you can format, or I prefer to format before windows install using HDD manufactures Utility.

After windows is installed for better performance/faster boot set the Boot order to SATA first!
