Installing Sound Card question

I recently bought a Dell Inspiron 530 WinXP, with onboard sound. Now, I'm finding that some of my applications won't work with the onboard sound, even after updating drivers. I have the soundblaster card from my old dell that I want to put in my new one, but I have a question.
My new dell has ATA cables instead of the old IDE.
As I look at my dvd burner, there is no seperate line running to the sound card like there used to be.
Will my soundblaster live card play dvds and cds without being connected to my dvd player, or is it all routed thru the motherboard now?

Yes the card will work for CD/DVDs. And yes, the sound is usually run thru the motherboard and rarely is an audio cable required these days. Just be sure to disable the on-board sound in the BIOS to avoid conflicts....

 

I didn't check your computer but is it running Vista? And how "old" is your old computer? Vista my or may not have drivers for your sound card? But even if it don't give them time they may come out with some.And what apps are you using that won't work? I can't see Dell onboard not working??

 

I'm running XP - The computer is only about 3 months old.
the apps I've run across that don't work with the onboard sound, are "audacity", and "PowerDvd".
