Installing vista SP1 via upgrade installation

    Is it possible to install Vista SP1 via a upgrade installation using the VIsta installation disc from Gateway? The reaspon I ask is I tried to perform the SP upgrade via Windows Update and Stand Alone install executable but I keep getting a Code 8000FFFF error that causes the upgrade to fail. Microsoft couldn't get it to install so I'm hoping the resources on the installation DVD can help.
