This will be my log of success and failure while attempting to rip vista from the dvd and making it bootable on a usb device.

Thus far i have decided that a 4 gig flash drive SHOULD be enough, however i currently have access to a 5th generation ipod (original ipod video) with a 30 gig 1.8 inch hard drive (i think its 1.8, point is its a hdd).

more to be added as i progress.

(i have done this before, i just forget what i did, and i remember the tutorial took forever and was impossible to read, so i am going to slowly build a tut that is easier than drinking water)

    Hi

This is what I used and this guide is easy to follow to do this http://kurtsh.spaces.live.com/blog/cns!DA410C7F7E038D!1665.entry in using diskpart and you will need to run CMD in admin mode (right click an run as admin)

Do also remember to make sure that you are xcpoying to the right drive when using this command xcopy d:\*.* /s/e/f e:\ as d: assumes thats the CD/DVDROM, and e:\ assumes the USB drives letter, so check yours befor xcopying and adjust the drive letters as mine was xcopy d:\*.* /s/e/f i:\

    Hi

Cannot think of a more simpler way unless you can create a batch file, application that will also locate correct drive letters to use for making the USB drive bootable and x-copying the OS over, the hard part is making sure with the list disk command that you have the right drive as it defaults to the C: and if you have mutliple HDDs the drive the amount of listed disks will be longer, I have a list of 6.

I just done this process with Win7 RC and took no more than 5mins for the bootable USB side and 10min to copy the OS to the USB drive.

Will be interestingly watching this thread for your suggestions and findings on making this more user friendly.
