Keep getting the same error for multiple files when installing windows on a new system I bought the other day.
    Mobo: GA-m59SLI-S5
    CPU: AMD X2 5000+

I have fully formatted the hdd, go to install windows xp. I get past the format/leave intact and it starts copying files over to begin the installation. Now it gets maybe 2 or 3% in before it starts saying such and such file could not be copied.

""The file setup places on your hard drive is not a valid Windows XP system image. If you are installing from a CD, then contact windows or system administrator"

I keep pressing enter and/or skip when needed and eventually at around 15% it BSOD's and I start from scratch.

I just want to get my pc working as I spent a heap of money buying it and now it's currently a very expensive and heavy paperweight.

What kind of cd are you installing from? Is it one you burned yourself or did you buy it separately? Is it an image cd? Or is it a regular installation disk? What version is it?

WinXP's activation key is generally attached to the mother board, so if you're using a copy of XP that is not familiar with your mother board, you may have to talk to Windows and tell them you had to replace your mother board and need to be able to activate your software using the new mother board. This is one of the gray areas, what the activation key refers to. If the cd is not from your original computer, it might be easier to buy a legit copy online. You can get a new oem XP-SP2 disk for around $100 and with this, I think you usually have to call India and get a new activation code, but they do give it to you.

edit: if they think the computer is completely new ... new everything ... they will probably not help you, but ask you to get new software. (I think)

I have used the copy of Windows on my other two pc's and it has worked fine. Could it be anything else? :S

Edit: I have also tried two other copies of Windows XP Professional and same error.

Hardware. Check all the connections inside, especially cables and make sure the memory sticks are seated properly.

Try moving the stick of ram to another slot (if you have one).
