Installing Windows updates with AV on?

Would any of you advise turning off one's antivirus prior to installing a big Windows update, such as a service pack or the big .NET 3.5 SP1 update that Windows is now recommending as a "high priority" update for some computer users? I'm using AVG free 8. (Not the latest .233 build just yet...I'll tackle that after the .NET thing is done! The .NET is a 248 Mb download, so quite a job in itself.)

    Thanks for any responses. :)

Generally no, and given that this is a genuine Microsoft product, no need. Anti-virus applications are detection tools and seldom impede downloading and installing software unless bugs or threats are found.

OK,thanks. I haven't been shutting down the AV for Windows updates, but I just wanted to check since this particular installation is so big, and I would hate to have it go wrong and/or have to repeat it. :)

The download and install went just fine. 248 Mb, 2 1/2 hours to download and took about 10 minutes to install. Everything is running smoothly. :)
