    I have an old IBM laptop. It will hold Windows XP and at a good rate. Now I just reformated it and when I put in the Windows Disc it says "Press any key to boot from CD..." I do so and then it goes through the setup loading the files. Then I hit Enter then F8. Now I get to the Partition screen I delete the partition and formatted the laptop completely. And then I went through the setup agian and it loads the setup files onto the hard drive. Now when I startup the laptop again it says after the boot thingie either "Disc read error" or it gets to the set and says that the file sysetup or osmething like that is either corrupt or missing but I have watched the setup copy that file. Help here folks?

    What does it say about the misising/corrupt file? What is it? Sounds like you are very close to booting up. :)

    Sad thing is no it isnt original. I made and used the copy of Windows XP disc and then I lost the disc so thats all I have. But it works on my desktop.

    Three possibles are 1: your bios settings 2: did you format to NTFS or Fat32 3: Your MS software Licence is for ONE Computer ONLY so even if you do get it running, MS will shut you down after an update.

    Sorry Shotgun Shortz you will have to purchase another OS

    Ntfs, technically yes I would be. But this is my friends computer I am fixing of which he has a complete copy of windows that he paid for. So its legal to use mine.

    XP can run on either Fat or NTFS file systems, NTFS is better

    Hey Shortz if it's your friends puter and he has a legit XP OS for it, then I would try his cd

    Some CD roms have trouble reading other CD burners CD's, so an original may work

    Well Windows XP came automatically on his laptop. And I can get to the page but it now says a blue screen error here it is.

    STOP: c000021a {Fatal system Error}
    The Windows Logon Process system process terminated unexpectedly with a status of 0x0000354 (0x00000000 x0000000).
    The system has been shut down.

    Ah the dreaded blue screen error's have arisen again. Tisk Tisk Tisk. Anyone know of this? Could really use help as it needs to go to him tomorrow and I dont like giving my friends back their computers that are f'ed up.

    Make another copy of your install CD and burn it slow speed with verification, if available and try that.

    Make a copy of the one you have. A slower burn and maybe a different brand of disc might help. I've done this with some problem discs I've had.
