No because there is no guarantee that the programs you use in 98 will work in XP.
Go for a dual boot rather than an upgrade. that way you can use the 98 programs when you boot 98 and get newer programs for XP.

    Hi

Do make sure first of all that your system hardware has XP drivers, if an OEM PC then look for model version on support site for maker, or if a home build look on motherboard makers site for downloads for your motherboard and make sure XP ones are available ( if they are download them to CD or USB for later installation )

MAKE a backup of all your important files, data, pictures, downloads etc before installing XP, no guarantees that all will go well in an upgrade. Generally better off if all drivers are available to backup all your data and make sure you have all CD/DVDs or setups for the applications you have and clean install XP, removed any issues you may have with left over legacy files.

But also run the XP Advisor tool to assess compatability with your hardware and software in most cases you may need to update alot of them for XP versions.
