I have a satellite laptop that i purchased used. It has some pretty bad performance issues and i don't trust it with my info on the internet, so I'm trying to reinstall with a xp pro disk. well when I try to install from boot it tells me that I'm trying to install a older version operating system and it won't let me go any further.
What I would like to know is what procedure would I have to go through to make this install?

Thank You for any help received...

Go into BIOS and change the boot sequence so that the CD-Rom boots first, boot from the CD, format and install. You will lose everything on the drive.

It does boot first from the dvd drive. and it begins to install then it tells me that the version I'm installing is an older version than installed now. and then it doesn't highlight the option to continue with the install. It shows the continue button, but it does not highlight to use as an option...

    Thank You

Here's a link to an easy-to-follow guide complete with screenshots showing exactly how to do a clean install of Windows XP. It doesn't matter if there's already a version on the PC or what version it is. If this doesn't work (I can't imagine it won't work, but stranger things have happened) you could create a slipstreamed install CD that has all the updates and service packs on it, so it wouldn't be "outdated"....

    Good luck!

I'm sorry, I was wrong, it does boot from the hard drive first. but when i go into the bios to change the order, it doesn't let me have the option to do it.
Here is a pic of the screen..

Notice no highlighted options to select drives

    Thanks again

That's a screen shot of page 2... lets see a screen shot of page 1.... it looks like a Toshiba laptop BIOS to me.... the boot order is usually on page 1 of the BIOS, on the top right side. The choices are usually like FDD>CDROM>LAN>HDD and HDD>FDD>LAN>CDROM and so on. As long as HDD is listed last, it should boot to the CD drive. Alternatively, right when the laptop is first turned on, at the bottom you have a pictures of available boot devices. If you start pressing the right arrow key repeatedly the moment the Toshiba logo comes up, you can 'scroll' through the boot devices; the picture with the orange bar under it is the boot device and you move the bar with the arrow keys. The picture that looks like 3 platters stacked up is the hard drive....
