    Hi,

I already have Windows XP Home Edition installed on my computer, but I need to upgrade to Windows XP Professional. I have the XP Professional disk, but how do I install it when XP Home is already on my computer?

Will I have to reformat my hard drive and then install XP Professional? Is there an easier way that won't require re-installing a bunch of other programs that I already have (Visual Studio 2005, IE7, etc.)?

    Thanks

What do you need that XP Pro has and XP Home does not have?

I need to be able to use Internet Information Services (IIS) and it is not available for XP Home

If all you are wanting is a Web Server, download Apache for Windows. That is all that IIS is. Now if trying to install Visual C++, that is a different story, which you can thank Microsoft for that one.

Unfortunetly, I am in a position where I MUST use IIS and not apache.... so how should I switch to XP Professional?

Yes, try a "repair" install, with the xp pro disc. It should "upgrade" to xp pro.

An "upgrade" from MS from XP Home to XP Pro will work.
It is certainly $$$$ cheaper than buying a "full" XP Pro.
Usual caveats apply. Back up your essential stuff just in case. Bazza
