    Hey everybody,

I am new to this forum, and I need some help. I didn't know where to post my question, but this topic included "networking and internet" and my problem is internet related. The other night, I had an important instant message conversation with someone on AIM. I use a program called "DeadAIM", which, incase you are unfamiliar with it, it logs all conversations held on AIM on your computer. HOWEVER, it only logs the IM once the conversation window has been closed. Anyway, after I signed off of AIM, I left the conversation window open so that I could access it easily the next day. To my surprise, somehow my computer had restarted on its own before I was able to view the conversation the next day! This means it was not logged by "DeadAIM". I read somewhere, once, that all conversations are stored within a computer and that it is possible to retrieve them, because police sometimes have to review some conversations. My question: I am in need of this conversation, a) is it truly at all possible to retrieve this conversation? and b) if so, can anyone tell me how, or at least tell me how to find out how to do it? Please, please help me.

    George

    PS - I am running windows 2000

Ok the way the police do it generally involves going to the chat server or the ISP and demanding to have access to their log files. If you're talking computer foernsics, you don't really have a chance of getting that convo.

It's going to be more effort than its worth to get it back. Recovering files, no problem, thats easy, but recovering somthing that wasn't there in the first place... near impossible, unless you work for the MET. :p

thanks a lot Goldfish, you helped a great deal :) I'm upset about the convo, but I guess it's inevitable. Thanks again
