Intel Centrino 1.3GHz runs at 597Mhz

    A Dell latitude D500 Intel Centrino 1.3GHz is running at 597Mhz. Why? Any solutions to resetting speed? We have 3 of these systems at school, only one running slow.

    Have you checked the bios to make sure it's set to the right speed?
    This is usually the most common problem with cpu speed, if it was a pc i'd also suggest if the heatsink/fan was positioned properly but as its a laptop then no...

    yes indeed that is intel speedstep technology built into the centrino system to conserve power so that when the cpu is not under load it slows down, when it has to do work it will speed up. try running some heavy program n then check out the processor speed...
