Intel Core 2 Duo not working

I just bought an Intel Core 2 Duo processor running at 3.06 GHz. It requires a 1066 MHz FSB, and an LGA 775 socket, both of which my motherboard has. I just got the CPU in the mail today and when I installed it (sans stock cooler--my current one is better) it would not work. :banghead

Here's what happened: the computer would turn on, the fan would run, but no picture would show up on either of my monitors. My video card wasn't loose, so the only thing I figured it could be was my brand new CPU.

I want to know if there's any way to fix this, or if my processor is DOA.
Oh, and to know WTF is going on. Thanks.

Just need you to answer a couple of questions to get more information:

    1. What thermal compound have you applied between the heatsink and processor?

    2. Does the board still work with the old processor (apply new thermal compound after every swap)?

Okay, thanks, just trying to eliminate the simple things first.

Do you have access to another board you can test the new processor on?

no, sorry. the only computers i would be able to mess with are too old to take this processor.

Okay, when the new processor is installed do you hear any beeps on startup?

forgot to mention that. no i didn't, which is super weird. usually there'd be some beep codes to go along with an issue like this...

The motherboard cannot beep if the processor cannot start POST.

This does look like a dead processor to me, sorry.

Are you sure your motherboard has the CPU on the support list?

Why don’t you ask Intel directly? There is a Live Chat session slated for 26th Feb 2010. Their in-house experts should be able to resolve it and answer any queries that you might have.

Just to make sure. The exact model of the cpu is on the support list?

I know in the past above you said It requires a 1066 MHz FSB, and an LGA 775 socket

That doesn't necessarily mean that cpu is supported.

Jut want to rule out all possibility

just an update: i had to go to the intel website to find the exact model i needed, which wasn't the one i had bought. but the new one works
