Intel Sandy Bridge chipsets

Hey guys,
Ummm, I've seen a lot on this subject but I don't really understand what this is all about. I thought I saw in a post that there was something wrong with them and I saw in another where they were recommend. I don't remember which thread they were in sorry. I'm lost with this whole thing could someone please shed some light on it?

Actually you are not too far off from that, awhile back there was something wrong with Sandybridge tech. I believe now everything is working fine , just Sandybridge got off to a rough start like GTX 590s

 

Yes there was a problem but which has apparently been addressed. It was to do with the I/O controller......over time HDD's would fail/fall over. From reports this was fixed in April/May 2011.

Have a look here, but specifically at the "Cougar Point chipset flaw" paragraph. It wasn't the Sandy Bridge CPU (popular misconception) but the "motherboard chipset" specifically the I/O chip:

Yup Bold Eagle and I got caught in the middle of the fiasco as my MSI mobo came in DOA back in Feb, neither my supplier nor MSI would replace it in the interim so for three months it took to replace, I kept seeing $700 in useless hardware just sitting there on the bench.:mad

The CPU itself is awesome but is likely overkill for most folks, even gamers.
