Intel stuff question

JimLL I can't follow the rules

XP Pro, SP3, current updates, Thinkpad T60p doing 2ghz, a formerly undamaged brain.

I am worlds worst with networking so don't hit me too hard with that big stick! ;)

While I was originally trying to set up networking I kept seeing both Intel stuff and Windows stuff. It seemed almost like there were two setup operations going at the same time. I can't think and chew gum at the same time, so I avoided Intel and used what was left (apparently a Microsoft based setup operation), which seemed to simplify things, altho that didn't make my brain work any better. :-o

But I just discovered that Intel stuff is in an "all users" startup folder ending up with "WiFi Connection Utility." I don't know if this is doing something useful or merely taking up space. I know the Intel icon no longer appears in the System Tray as it once did. I think it would be in my own startup folder if I had put it in at some time. :confused

If this thing is merely along for the ride I want to take it out of the startup folder.

Does anyone know about this? :banghead

    hey JimLL, been a while.

Did your network setup ok? You did exactly what i do myself. Turn off the intel, use windows to configure.

I know that some of those wireless card programs are critical. Even knowing that, I uninstalled it out of a laptop that was working well. That was 2 months ago and I haven't gotten the wireless to work again since. No amount of messing and reinstalling or restoring has gotten it back.

I recommend that you leave the intel program there, it is likely doing more functions than just the actual connection to the network.

As in, If it ain't broke, stop trying to "fix" it?

This laptop talks to the router wirelessly. The other laptop talks to the router wirelessly. They have never talked to each other.

    Thanks

Whatever on God's Green Earth makes you think it ain't broke? On the other hand ... the only thing it doesn't do is network.

    Thanks for giving me .............

This is what I am worst at. Reading a bunch of stuff and trying to get any kind of clue how anything fits together. Just call me Mr. Onetrack Q. Forgotit. That's why I have so much trouble with networking. On the other hand, when I last went to work on this, I came up to a system error that people all over the internet were trying to get past. At that time no one had.

(I can remember that, but not a single, solitary, related detail.)

I've printed a bunch of stuff out. That'll be much easier than trying to juggle web sites.

    Thanks
