Intellipoint Software Issue

My old 7000 mouse was worn out. The wheel was suffering from years of abuse by me, and would no longer scroll reliably.

So, I ordered up a 4000 mouse by MS, and I have found that even with the latest MS software release (8.2) installed, it will not detect the mouse, and all of the interface for the mouse in control panel remains greyed out. I have uninstalled the previous version of Intellipiont.

Frankly, most of what it needs to do does indeed function, but I need my magnify function back, and without the mouse being detected by the Intellipoint software, I can't get the magnify function. The button on the left side of the mouse does nothing.

I have gone through the MS help release dated April of this year, and none of it is helpful.

I booted up in safe mode to see if that method removed conflict. It did not help.

Has anyone here found a solution to this issue?

Your doing it wrong......its a mouse?
You shouldn't need to bother with third party software and fancy configs when you can P&P.

Whats wrong with a Logitech Plug n Play for cheap $$ .......Standard equip throughout my network ;)
Plug the USB receiver into your device, windows will talk to it and your good to go!

Thanks. Apparently you did not read through my post, but I appreciate your time.

Can anyone here address this issue, as I have described it?

Only one thing comes to my mind. Is the 4000 software older than the 7000 software? If so, maybe some remnants of the 7000 software are corrupting use of the 4000 mouse. Could happen if the uninstaller didn't remove everything when you uninstalled the 7000 software.

Could you remove the 4000 software, reinstall the 7000 software, and then try removing it with Revo or another of the unistallers? No idea if this would help at all. G/L...

It's also possible that your new mouse is defective. Does MS still have tech support for these?

If the mice used individual software, that could happen.

Microsoft Intellipoint is a joint software that allows you to choose your device from a list of some 30 possible models. The problem here is that when the software does not identify a Microsoft product connected to the system, the GUI remains greyed out. This was not a problem until I changed the Intellipoint software because the 4000 had not been in the list of potential devices.

The mouse itself is able to connect to the USB radio stub and the left, right, and wheel controls work.

I need the side button to work to control the magnifier, but I can't configure the side button without the software recognizing the mouse.

Because the basic functions work, it looks to me like the mouse is not defective. It is a current product, too.

I would have bought a replacement 7000, but it is no longer made. I could have avoided this drama.

Have you downloaded a driver from here?
    https://www.microsoft.com/accessories/en-sg/d/wireless-mobile-mouse-4000

I downloaded the datasheet from here
    Code:
    http://static.highspeedbackbone.net/pdf/Microsoft%20Wireless%20Mobile%20Mouse%204000%20Data%20Sheet.pdf
Windows 7, Vista and XP are supported.
    It uses Intellipoint v 7

Perhaps if you can get Intellipoint v 7 software, you can get the side button working.

I use three MS mobile mice 3500, no side button. I also never installed the Intellipoint software.

The 7000 entry was available in the previous Intellipoint software. The 4000 was not. This shows the 4000 post dates the 7000. Not intuitive, but that appears to be irrelevant.

In order to configure the new 4000 mouse, I needed to update the software to a version where the mouse is listed. The 4000 is a current mouse being sold by MS.

I tried the link in post #10 above, and XP is not a listed OS for that version.

Bottom line, I have found other complaints listed online where The MS software fails to detect one of their mouse products. For some reason, this was not an issue with the previous 7000 mouse, which is also a radio driven device.

I can't say if the 4000 is actually "defective," since the mouse does point and click using the left and right buttons, and the scroll wheel also works. The software just refuses to detect it. As a test, I just reconnected the 7000 mouse, and it detects and I can once again use the magnification function.

I am giving up on the 4000.
