hello everyone, first timer here. anyway... i have a friend that is moving next door to my wife and i and i was wondering how we can connect his network together with mine so that we do not hogg each others internet bandwidth. i'm using a netgear MR814v2 router, d-link d704p router (as hub/print server) 16 port SynOptics LattisHub 2803, and am running Windows 2003 server on a dual p3 1ghz machine. i believe he has a dlink d-604 router and a dell something or another. i would like to keep our internet connections seperate and still connect to each others networks for file sharing and what not.

i was thinking maybe tossing in another nic card into my server, connecting his network to that nic and still having my other 2 nics connected to my network (running a postal 2 server and vpn server currently) bridging his network with my postal 2 nic. do you think that would work???? thanks in advanced.

Yes, i do think that would work, the only other way would be to use a router on each network and connect them together with static routes. One thing common with all options is how are you going to connect the two networks (type of medium), cat 5, fiber, wireless?

i plan on dropping a line of cat 5e over there. i'm not to fond of wireless (just slow, and not really ment for large data flows) and my friend doesnt own fiber optic anything (i do... hehehehe) thanks for the help. hope it works as planned. i'll let you all know when i get it connected.

good luck and PM me with the results, I actually am interested in how it comes out.
Just remember the 100m (330ft) limitation on Cat-5
