Just been going through some old threads of mine and I found two polls I'd created in mid 09. AMD vs INTEL and NVIDIA vs ATI

It was interesting to see we were exactly 50-50 on Intel and AMD and we're massively biased towards Nvidia ...

    AMD vs INTEL

    NVIDIA vs ATI

Just 5 or 10 years ago (god I feel old starting a sentence like that) AMD would have been leaps and bounds ahead of Intel. It's amazing really Intel fought back so well. I'd also be interested to know how the NVIDIA vs ATI poll would have scored if it was just on the hardware not the utilities!

As you have seen from your polls i am a die hard Intel/Nvidia person.

Since your polls i have added more hardware to my collection a GTX470 and a GTX480 plus an i7 CPU.

Fair enough ... you should shoot some over my way, so next time when I spend 7 hours performing thorough maintenance on my car (I just finished and even then I've got more to do tomorrow), I can pay someone else to do it!! :p

Actually, would Gold Bullions be alright? I mean the Feds are watching for wire transfers, Customs are watching for cash money, but WHO would be watching for Gold BULLIONS!! :p

Now, getting back on topic...:p:-D Last year I would have been for Intel as I had a good machine going with a Q6600 and if your poll would have been taken 5 years ago I would have said AMD. However, I'm a staunch Intel fan now, at least until the i7-980X hexa-core comes down to a reasonable price and by then AMD should be out with their X8's and AM3+ socket mobo stock for desktops. We'll see what happens then between the two.

As to the GPU wars, I stayed away from ATI back some 5 or more years ago when all I saw about ATI was driver issues and the same about Via chipsets, nothing but problems. MG forums were full of that. These days I see almost nothing like that so in a couple of years if I decide to go AMD and the folding stars align properly, it'll be ATI GPUs in my house for the first time ever. You can't currently beat ATI price/performance.(meaning cores)

That would have been close to my reply :p

Well, as far as AMD and Intel goes, Intel obviously has the much better performance atm and AMD is having a hard time catching up, but that isn't my main issue. I worked in a Computer shop once upon a time, and in my time there I saw one buggered Intel CPU and 3 AMD CPUs ... that pretty much made up my mind for me.

As for the Graphics side, whenever I see/hear ATI ... I shiver ... I owned one, hmmmmmmmmmmm ... would have been ... probably five - six years ago, and ever since then (random crashes, CCC continuously interfering with programs, next to no driver support etc etc) I have never recommended an ATI card, and will never put foot near one again (unless its to crush it into the floor :-D)
