Intermiitent loss of HDD

I've had this problem since I built my system two years ago. It doesn't happen often, but it's only my boot drive that does this. I subsequently bought the SecureConnect cables as the ASUS supplied cables were coming loose and this reduced the frequency . I've also switched the the data cables to rule them out and the boot drive got hit again.

This always happens in XP and before I had disabled autoboot, it would die and reboot into the Vista install which I would see when I came on (runs 24/7) This time I couldn't reboot as there was no system drive found so I reseated the data cables but no joy, then I moved some other wires and now it works properly though I don't know what I did besides moving the PSU cables.

BTW, the BSOD I get 0x00000007A Kernel_Data_Inpage_Error which seems to be the loss of my swap file. I don't know what else to try, anyone have some recommendations?

Sorry for such a long post though I wanted to include everything I've noticed to help you possibly fix the worst thing that can happen to a computer, intermittent function. TIA all.

Mmm

Do you actually have a swapfile setup, you have not due to having loads of memory set the swap to zero? Set it allso to system managed if its not.

Is the Swap on the same drive/partition?

Check for Bios updates, only mention this as I reading this http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=913379&sd=RMVP

Have you checked the HD for errors with manufacturers tool, if one?

Used WD's Data Lifeguard and all is clean.

It may well be ACPI problems as I've had issues with it, but the rest is just Greek to me. I guess I'll wait for the next outage on Vista to rule out XP, it's time I migrated there fulltime anyways. Thanks Halo.
