intermitant internet connection

I have Verizon DSL with westell modem and a Netgear WPN824v2 router. @ weeks ago I started getting disconnects and reconnects. Well today I was working on my desktop hard wired to the router when I lost internet connection. So I tried to log onto the router and got a message that the labtop had control. No one was using the laptop but it was turned on and in standby/sleep mode. I turned the radio off and a few minuets later I could log into the router but the router had been reset to defaults.
Now when i set up my network I set the router into bridge mode and the router do all the assigning, I changed the password and tunned off the broadcast of wireless signal, set security and also assigned mac address for obtaining IP addresses.
I have run scans and Malwarebytes Anti-melware and nothing is found! Would this be a virus or is the router starting to fail? The router very rarely losses LAN connection but has lately lost WAN (internet) Connection. The DSL light on the modem has not flashed or gone out but the router has shown loss if internet!

What is the problem?

Ended up being a modem problem!

Got modem replaced and all is working fine!
