intermittent loss of web, but voip ok!!

i often lose my internet connection, that is, i cannot access web pages or play games or use email, but when this happens, i can still use voip perfectly (i use skype) . so, i might be chatting to someone while browsing the internet, i lose my browsing capability, but carry on talking on skype. the cure is to simply switch off my router power, wait a minute and switch on, wait a minute and all is back to normal. this happens every other day or so. i've done thorough scans with nav, spybot, ad-aware, all up to date. i rarely find any problems now, since using the hosts file project.
system is: xp pro, sp2, broadband router linksys wag54g, d-link nic.
oh, i've just remembered, i also cannot connect to my router's set up page when this happens.

 

You use VoIP too? How do you like Skype? Sorry for all the questions- I am curious... Is the customer service what you expected?

 

hi, i use skype all the time. best quality voice program i've ever used, better even than the telephone. and nothing interferes with it. haven't used the support feature much, except the sound setup tutorial which is excellent. btw i've fixed the router problem, turned off the built in power saving feature.

 

Hmmm... I have heard of that type of thing happening before, but not that much! Sounds like it is your Internet provider.... have you checked with your neighbors to see if it happens to them too? If you are using wi-fi, like I do, you may want to check to see that you have a secure connection, so that no one will "poach" off your signal.... This should help solidify your Internet commection and your voip...
