    HELP!!!

I am using WXPproSP2 on a w2000server domain with a LAN and using a program that has Oracle as its database program. About 2 weeks ago, we started getting intermittent problems where the user was logged into the program, working fine and then a message pops up that says that Oracle Lost Connection with no error number or anything else. Now it logs right back in so it is just an intermittent thing, but it causes some grief with the file the user was working on until we manually refresh the "jobs" processing. I have checked the network, dropped all new cables, even reinstalled the fat client and it still does it. Mostly to one computer but a couple of others have notified me they have had the same issue, but very rarely. AND of course, the ONE it has to happen to the most is the Office Administrator's computer.

Sounds like a timeout setting to me! Do you use any ODBC data sources?

Also, search the machine's hard drive for sqlnet.log and especially error.log files. These may contain more data about your dropped connection.

As I stated before, we are using Oracle. There is no SQL. But I am not sure what to look for in the ODBC settings. Is there a time-out setting to look for in ODBC?? Thanks for the reply!! :)

ALSO< I have a machine that is using SATA drives that are using RAID 2+0. I am getting an "error loading operating system" whe it gets past the BIOS part of the bootup. I am running Windows XP Pro and even when I go into the Repair COnsole, it shows the drive with windows on it as drive letter I:\ What is up with that? I have never used SATA drives on a RAID 2+0 setting before. What happened is that it was working fine and then everything froze and I had to reboot. When I did, I got the error listed above. I tried to do the "repair" that allows you to reinstall Windows XP but it isn't coming up as one of the choices. It rarely does. But I can do that Repair Console, but no one can figure out the Administrator psassword.

Heh, actually, you access Oracle with SQL commands. Any Open DataBase Connection (ODBC), including oracle, uses SQL to access the data. My recommendation to search for logs is valid.

To view your data sources, please do the following:

    1. Open Control Panel
    2. Double-click 'Administrative Tools' (XP only)
    3. Double-click 'Data Sources'

Here, you will see data sources specific to the system, a particular user, or files, as well as the drivers for each database type.
