My machine is a second-hand Time Computers desk-top, and the motherboard information gleaned by Everest Home Edition is in the attached text file.

When I acquired the machine, the front panel card reader, a 3.5" wide device, worked ok. It has four slots for the various common memory cards and an extra USB port. The only identification on it, apart from a serial number, is CRi100.

After the OS plus updates reinstallation the reader no longer works.

The motherboard's web site doesn't help me.

The reader appears under Disc Drives in Hardware Manager as:

    CF USB Device
    MS USB Device
    SM USB Device
    MMC/SD USB Device

The drivers for the four entries are the same:

    system32/drivers/disk.sys
    system32/drivers/PartMgr.sys

Hardware Manager says that the devices are working correctly. Telling the system to update the drivers produces the response that it can't find newer versions.

So I'm stuck. Any help to get this thing working again would be appreciated.

does it appear as another drive under "My Computer" ?

for instance, if you have 1 hard drive, 1 cd/dvd rom, and the card reader,
C: will be the hard drive
    D: will be the cd/dvd
E: would be the card reader

Have you tried uninstalling the devices, then rebooting, letting the system do a new install of the devices? Just wondering.

No I didn't, but read on.

No, it wasn't assigned a drive letter, but each slot has its own entry in Hardware Manager, as I said in my first post.

Since the system told me that the device is working correctly I decided to put a card in ..... it works ok.

Strange that the system seems to be ashamed to mention it :)

Thank you to you both for trying.

Seems to me you might be able to assign a drive letter via drive management (management console). Maybe SP3 saw them as a conflict with something else?
I have had many drives disappear when they are conflicting with another drive the system wants to map to that drive letter.

Any usb sticks taking up drive letters?

Since no one else has asked... do you have any yellow question marks or exclamation marks in Device Manager, and where are they? :)
