Hey, I'm looking to buy a new internal hard drive for a fairly reasonable price, but I was just wondering if I would have to install Windows XP onto it or if I could get a hard drive with Windows XP, etc., already on it or whatever. Also, is there any hard drives out there I should look for?

    Thanks...

If you already have XP installed, it will just recognize the drive as new hardware. Just initialize and format it (if you buy a boxed one, there should be a nice easy wizard provided). Now you have a fresh hard drive which will show up in explorer next to your C: drive. If you are replacing your drive you can either copy the contents of your old drive onto the new one or install a fresh copy of XP.
Hard drives don't come with an OS pre-installed though. This is because a OS installation is hardware dependent.

Yes, I was going to replace my old hard drive because it is slow as heck and full of viruses. BTW, would replacing the hard drive help that problem or is it the motherboard that's the problem.

So what you're saying is that if i'm -replacing- it then I would need to install XP fresh? Would the Windows XP boot disks from microsoft.com work for that?

I would suggest you clean up the hard drive (if you need help with the viruses go to the malware section :Read and run first - Malware section

Yes, you would need an xp install disc, not the boot discs.....

You could still get another drive and use it as a slave for extra storage.

The setup disc are for an install on a computer that needs to have the cd-rom set up first ...as in a computer that you can't boot from a cd. ...you still need the cd.
