I have tried to add a sata lite-on blu ray burner to my dell dimension e-510 I have the original 80 gb HDD with the OS on it and a 500 gb storage HDD. I installed a pci controller card to run an external HDD and it also has two additional sata ports on the inside. I have the two internal HDD's plugged into the available sata ports on the MB. When I added the blu ray burner to the controler card it wont let me boot. I get sata primary drive o not found hit f1 to continue or f2 for bios where the booting sequence says that sata 0 isnt there. looking in drives shows both internal drives. When I hit f12 boot menu and run HDD diagnostics it shows both internal HDD's are fine. If I unplug the sata for the blu ray burner the computer boots up normally

What brand/model of controller card do you have?

Have you tried attaching your boot drive to the controller card?

I have a masscool high speed pci controller card and did not try plugging the boot dive into it but I will give it a try. I was assuming the connections on the motherboard would take precedence over the add-on card. I was wondering if the motherboard accepted a limited number of sata connections but unplugging the external hard drive did not help.

What does your BIOS interface look like?

Is the menu on the left, or the top? Under boot sequence would you ordinarily see your model# or generic like "drive 0"?

    What is your service tag?

Almost forgot, are all your drives set to AHCI in the BIOS, or can you not see that either? Silly question I have to ask, is are all the ports turned on in the BIOS?

The menu in on the left hand side and all drives are turned on drive generically listed as Sata drive 0 I will have to reboot to see if set as AHCI (i do believe so)
Service tag is 1NZZ091 originally xp and now running win 7

I would like to thank the mekanic for all your help. I just tried plugging the HDD with the operating system into the controller card and the blu ray burner into the motherboard ansd it is booting up as quick as ever. I don't know why it makes a difference but it did the job. Thank you again!!!!!!!!!!!!!:-D:-D
