internet accelerator

I used my IP accelerator until I upgraded when it became incompatible. Now I have a slow computer. Would a different browser help or can someone recommend an accelerator? I hope someone can help me! Thanks!

PS I am new to the forum and don't understand all the tags above my message! I don't even know what the different modes mean!

 

Sorry I didn't give you sufficient info. I have a dial-up connection and I upgraded from W98 to W2000. I have forgotton how to check what memory and speed I have. Hope this helps. Thanks!

Um, I have 2000 at work. Can you click on start, then My computer? Then something about System Information?

(or control panel, and view basic information about computer? something like that.)

 

Thank you Pegg, It took me a while but I finally found memory. Cant find processor speed. There are a lot of places to click over when I am posting. Not sure what you mean about 'quotes'.

Anyway, Total Virtual memory: 1,087,720 KB; Actual Virtual memory 675,072 KB. Total Physical memory 260,400 KB; Available physical memory 62,616 KB. (not sure what this means).

I have Norton anti-virus, Spybot, Spycatcher, Winpatrol and Zonealarm Firewall - so I think I am well protected. I think I need to download an accelerator program - but when I google them, there are so many that I lose my nerve!! Any experience with any? Thanks for help - I am looking forward to learning much from this site.
