    Hello,

My computer can't access the internet, but was able to previously. Here is info that may help:

The place I am staying has cable internet, and has a wireless access point set up.
My computer does not have a wireless network adapter, but my roommate's does. She connects to the wireless connection with the built-in wireless network adapter and it works fine. Her computer runs Vista.

My computer runs Windows XP Home. We got a thing called a "switch", made by Netgear, model FS608 if that matters. It is described on the box as "8-port Fast Ethernet Switch".
The switch is connected to the Vista computer and to my computer with something called "CAT6" wires. They are thick red wires with plastic plugs on each end that look a lot like a telephone plug, but a little bigger.
I'm sorry if this is too much detail, but I don't know anything about this stuff and want to be sure you have all the information.

Does it matter which end of the wire goes into the computer and into the switch?
Does it matter what port number we connect each computer into on the switch?

Up until this morning everything worked fine. I had good internet connection. Now I have none. We have rebooted both computers, and even tried shutting off the power to the Netgear switch and then putting it back on.

Another housemate from down the hall brought his laptop computer in, which runs XP and has a wireless connection. We connected the switch to that machine, and my internet access worked again.

We've looked at the Vista machine, but don't see what the problem could be. It has good internet connection and is configured to share the connection.
I called my brother, who knows a little about compuers, a lot more than I know, and he told me to open this little black window and use a command "ipconfig", on each computer. Here's what was printed:

This is from the Vista computer:

    Questions I have include:

Do you see anything obviously wrong in the information from "ipconfig" shown above?

Why would everything work when the XP machine is the shared connection but not with Vista?
This really confuses me because everything WAS working fine with the Vista machine before this morning.

Thanks in advance for any advice or suggestions.
