internet access

My computer logs on to the internet automatically each time i turn it on ,,,,, WHY???????. How can I make it not. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I assume that you're on a dial-up connection. I've not used one for years, so I'm a bit rusty.

If you right-click the Internet Explorer icon on your desktop and select the Connections tab, you can alter when the connection is made.

That should solve the problem. Alternatively, tell it not to remember your password. You'll still get the dial-up window but it won't try to connect until you enter the password.

It sounds like you have something installed that tries to update online every time it starts. Virus protection stuff is common for that - it looks for updates. If you can identify the program that is calling the connection, alter its properties to update "on demand" rather than automatically.

After you right-click the IE icon - go to Properties ... the Connections tab is in there.

The errant file was prmvr.exe don't know how it got there but once removed problem gone. Thanks to all.
