I work in an auto shop where I often have to access the internet to locate parts. My system administrator has internet content advisor turned on so we dont "surf" for inapropriate material. However In order for me to get on to a site not previously approved I have to have him come to our location and have him plug in his password. It is becoming annoying having to wait for him to do this as it may take a few days for him to get to my building. I do not have any intention of "surfing" for porn, or downloading inappropriate material. I would like to find a way to get around this web block, We use windows 2000, and are not directly networked. It has been suggested that I change my IP address, but he would be able to discover that. I would like to skate around his b/s, but without his knowing. Any suggestions???

Need to know how he is blocking access. An asterick key finder (check our covert ops section) could show his password possibly.

Aside from that, without knowing how he is blocking, it is impossible to know :)

You might want to check windows protected storage for the password. You can download one that can open protected storage for you off this site, but i'm not sure where.(i found it once)

    Online Anonymity Tools

You might want to try Online Anonymity Tools, once you have the one Website cleared for you to access you will be able to browse other websites without ever having any problems.

This link is ok, and if you search for others I am sure you will find a pretty good one. There are a few that are free.

He is using internet explorer 5.5, content advisor. That is what parents use to block porn sites from thier kids. It is a password protected program. I was considering getting a program to show hidden passwords, but I cant unless I know he would not be able to discover the program or use of it. My boss is very leary about internet access as on of the employees at another building downloaded a pretty nasty virus a few weeks ago. I am the service manager, but I feel like a little kid having to call him up to get access to a site. Does this info help???

Yes, it does prove your admin is not too bright since he is running 5.5 IE and that is very unsecure. Look smart, tell your boss his admin a dork and not being caught up on ALL security fixes (theres been at least a dozen since 6.0 was released long ago) subject you to viruses like you hear about on the news via webpages. This is a very bad thing. Its not debateable from him or anyone else. He would be better to update, or use another browser like Mozilla or Opera without Java in a work environment. You guys are probably getting viruses there no thanks to your "admin" yet he is probaly calling you guys idiots and blaming you. I cant help but wonder if your virus is kept up to date or if he has all the Windows 2000 service packs. Failure to keep up to date makes him responsible for viruses and problems, but having a boss without knowledge wont help this situation. Truthfully, Windows 2000's time has come and gone, he should have you guys on XP Pro or Server 2003.

I tried one or two asterik programs, but they either leave a folder behind or a start menu entry, so you will need to manually clean up some to hide traces. Some other assumptions are this guy might be logging computer activity, so all in all, I think the whole idea is very risky, especially if your job can be on the line.

I can close only by saying the easy way is an asterik recovery program, you could try a few at home to see if any install, and more importantly, uninstall cleanly. Make sure you get freeware only since shareware versions usually only show the first 3-5 letter. Then again, your admin sounds about dumb enough to use admin for a password ;) There are about 5 freeware ones available, listed below in order of what might be a better bet first:

    Phew. /rant off
