I was wondering, I have one phone line and I have dial up and I am wanting to be able to connect to the internet and talk on the phone without having to buy another phone line is there a way of doing this?

not that I am aware of. You may want to look into getting broadband internet access if it's available in your area.

My explanation above was in the strict sense of the questoin. There are programs out there that let you call phones from your pc. www.dialpad.com is one. However ,surfing and talking could bog down the connection (dialup is slow) and your experience would be horrible. So my above statement to research broadband still stands.

Actually, there use to be, though maybe you still can get them, voice modems that you could buy.

At least I think they were voice modems. I remember reading about them about 5 or 6 years ago.

    Basically there was two options.

    1. Surf the net at a limited speed, and still make phone calls all using the same bandwidth. Basically your bandwidth was split between your modem and your landline phone.

    2. Surf the internet, your phone rings, you pick up the phone, the internet is still connected but at a paused rate. You can either tell the other person you'll call back, then hang up and continue browsing, or you can stay on the phone and the computer will automatically disconnect.

Once again, not sure if these modems exist anymore, I'd see if your modem has something called modem-on-hold. Or an internet based voice mail.
