Internet blocked on Vista premium! help!

ok so the problem is fairly simple...its my friends computer and he said he connected to his wifi and there was a question that popped up and he just clicked yes and his internet stopped working...

ive tried the following

uninstalling all of the network adapters

re installing internet explorer

looked to see if its connected, and it seems to be sending and receiving information normally, i just cant surf the internet, it just says "web page was not typed in correctly, or it is down" or something along those lines

and when i try to make a new connection it says "you are already connected to the internet, do you want to surf now?" and it does not detect any problems, the firewall is turned off

i know its something really simple i just dont have much experience with vista

He saw something, clicked yes; he has no access yet the computer is connected and traffic seems to be moving back and forth to and from the computer and the firewall is off. That's a recipe for malware to take over his computer.

and have him do all the steps for cleaning and post the logs. You may have to download the software because if his computer is infected he probably won't be able to get to any security site to get the tools.
