internet connecting

    I have a problem with not getting connected to internet on my laptop hard drive crashed installed new one. Reinstalled the system. Had trouble with the ethernet but got that go i thought. It will not connect says it cannot get TCP/IP address i am lost as to what to do next. Dell inspiron 6000 with windows xp professional.

    Hi

    When you re-installed the system was this from a Dell restore disk/partition or from a XP CD?

    In Device Manager do you have any yellow ! marks, if so by what devices? just checking to see if all hardware drivers are installed,

    Could try this info HERE and use the FixIT.

    If that doesnt work, the what security software do you have installed, please name all applications, and also disable them to test they are not blocking you?

    Boot into Safe Mode (F8 at boot and choose Safe Mode with Networking) and try the internet, does it work?
