This is interesting to me -

I have a computer that the internet and network will not work in one location. (Wired Connection)

If I move the computer to another location (ie. where a different computer is on the same network) the internet will work fine.

If I swap the computers, both computers internet and network work.

I have tried many things to repair this issue, such as win sock and refresh/renew IP address.

The IP address will not renew.

Please help. This one's got me.

    Thanks.

When you say you move the computers to a different location, do you mean different networks or network segments? Do an IPCONFIG ?ALL from both machines when working and when not working....and post results here. My first guess is that the machine that will not release its IP address has a static one.

If the computer is moved physically, to a different location on the same network, it will work. Or if it is moved physically to a different location on a different network, it will work. I am unable to post IPCONFIG at the moment but will do so shortly.

Are these computers on the same switch/hub?

yes - Both on same router. Both have previously worked on this router.

Sounds to me as, it's the router or switch/hub connection that your plugged into, if it's working elsewhere when you physically move the comp !

So, the "bad" computer will not work in the "bad" location but will work everywhere else?

The "good" computer will work everywhere even in the "bad" location?

That seems a little inconsistent. If the bad computer is running XP, go to device manager and delete the network controller (if you have the drivers for it). Reboot and windows should find the controller and reinstall it. See if that helps.

    You have it 100% correct...

No consistency at all... That is one of the reasons I can not resolve the issue.

    I will try the driver.

Sounds like a good one. When things go weird with TCP/IP, which is not very often, then I like to start fresh by reinstalling the driver for the controller and this is the easiest way. Good luck.

OK then, have you tried spoofing your mac address on that particular PC see if that will help at all !

Have not - How do you do that?
