Trying to connect a laptop running Vista Home software to an existing home network... which currently has 3 wireless devises operating smoothly on the network. The Vista laptop connects to the network easily enough, but has no internet connection. The system gives an error message indicating there's a problem with my modem or router. Below are steps I have tried a number of times.

Re-booted the modem, router and laptop

Automatically get new IP settings for network adapter “Wireless Network Connection”

Reset network adapter “Wireless Network Connection”

    Updated wireless network adapter

    Uninstalled & reinstalled the adapter

Any other suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks

On the problem machine open a command window and type ipconfig /all. Ctrl + C to copy it and paste here.

Thanks. All looks ok except perhaps DNS pointing at the router. Can you check the DNS setting on one of the other systems which does have internet?

OK, thanks. Your settings look good to me so I would recommend you run Tweaking.com Windows Repair. Run the Common Repairs and be sure to do so in Safe Mode.

Unfortunately, tweaking.com didn't fix the issue... and I ran all the repairs in Safe Mode. The Vista laptop doesn't appear to have any other issues, and all other devices connected to the network work fine... 2 laptops, 2 phones (Iphone & android), Ipad & 4 TVs utilizing YoutubeTV streaming service. A few years ago, the laptop running Vista worked fine on the network. This is a very strange issue. Fortunately, there is nothing of importance on the laptop.

    Hi there,

You network settings should look like the following:

    upload_2020-4-8_14-27-43.png upload_2020-4-8_14-28-1.png

If you set your Wi-Fi correctly to the above dialogs it should connect. Make sure your gateway IP address is your internet modem address...

Make sure all your laptops have a different IP address... 192.168.1.10 ... >> up to >> ...192.168..1.15 or whatever... if they have the same address they will not connect...

Thanks all. Have tried ALL suggestions, but nothing works. Think I'm about ready to toss this old laptop. Afterall, I have other up to date devices with all my info in tact. I was simply attempting to resurrect this dinosaur so my technically challenged wife might be able to learn how to send/receive email and search the internet. Truth be told... at 75 she's not that interested;):(:). Thanks again.

To gain her attention you will need to put a fully working laptop in front of her and pull up something she might just be interested in. Offering her an old system with issues will just turn her off.
