This is my first time posting in this section so I don't know what exactly you guys need information wise.

I am running Windows 7. I have AVG in terms of virus protector. Windows Firewall turned off. The router is NetGear and is about 20 feet away or about in the other room.

But the problem is isolated to the laptop because I run my phone on WiFi and I checked when the connection drops from the laptop, it still works on my phone. So something is wrong on the laptop.

The connection drops and comes back quite often. It does this all throughout the day. When it drops, I periodically check if the actual connection dropped on the router but it does not.

Just let me know what technical information or logs you guys will need to see what the problem is.

    Thanks.

    Hi

Sometimes windows network adapter are set to go in standby mode when not in use and i'm just wondering if that is the case. Try going to your device manager, right click your wireless adapter and go to properties. In there uncheck if the box is checked where it says "Let windows turn off the adapter to save power". Also, try to update your wireless adapter drivers.

A little bit more information about your windows and laptop itself will be helpful.

    Thanks

Nope that box is unchecked. I found that setting while searching through trying to troubleshoot the first time and thought that might be it but it wasn't.

Just let me know any specific information needed...I will try my best to give some more:

    Windows 7 Home Premium 64 Bit SP1
    Intel Core i5 M 480 @ 2.67GHz 4.0GB ram

Network adapter : Realtek RTL8188CE Wireless LAN 802.11n PCI-E NIC

Maybe it was not setup properly?

    Give this a try:

Place your laptop next to the router for a little while and check if the connection drops. If it does, then it is a laptop issue and if not, then it could be due to distance or some sort of interference.

Not sure if this will help, but try to assign a static IP to your wireless adapter and see if it helps. If you need help with that, let us know.

When was the last time you update the router firmware? Get the model of your trendnet and see if there is an update for router.

    Hope it helps.

Yes even when it is next to it or real close, it will drop. Like 4-5 ft away I have been. Because on my phone, even outside over 100ft away, the signal will be fine. I use Wifi at all times when I am at home. And it never drops. So it's not the actual signal itself but the medium from which I am trying to get the signal, in this case, my laptop.

And yes, I do need help with a setting up a static IP. Thanks.

Also, how do I go about searching to see if there is a firmware update for my router?

    Thanks for your help.
