internet connection problem

    My computer developed severe problems so I have installed the ethernet card in another one which is virtually the same make and model but although the cable box and the card are on and seem to be working properly I am unable to get online. System keeps telling me there is no internet connection. I have tried different applicable drivers downloaded on another computer and put on disk and floppies but nothing works. I have a surfboard cable modem provided by my isp who checked and told me all was well at their end so I am at a loss as to what to try next. does anyone have any suggestions short og GBH ? thanks in advance maginty:cry

    Welcome to Major Geeks.
    Have you tried a hard reset of the modem box?
    Pull the power plug for about 30 seconds.
    Then plug it back in.
    Forces the box to reset the IP address.

    Hi, thanks for trying to help but pulling the plug has made no difference. there is nothing in the internet connection box so I take that to mean there is no apparent connection at all. regards maginty

    Carnac says check the ID10T card to make sure it's seated.

    You need to check your firewall to be sure the connection to the internet is allowed.
    Has the computer with the "new" card in it ever been connected to the internet? If so, how? Perhaps the computer is looking at the wrong device to get online.

    It wouldn't hurt to take a look in device manager to be sure all the hardware is okay.

    Hi,
    thanks to all who offered suggestions. I have solved the problem and blush to admit the IDIOT card was NOT seated correctly. All is well now till the next screw up!!
