Just bought a new HP desk top. When i connect to the internet i'm able to stay on it for a few minutes and then my ethernet light goes off on my modem. I unplug the modem and router then plug back in and it repeats. How ever i can use my laptop and play games on my Xbox 360 just fine. Go to my desk top view a few pages on the web then it disconnects. Any idea what might be happening? Maybe a setting on the new desk top i'm overlooking? Thanks!

Do you mean the light goes off on the NIC card inside your computer ?
To make sure it isn't a bad card, right click My Computer, select Properties. Then open Device Manager and click the + sign in front of Network Adapters. Right click your NIC and select properties. Click on the Power Management tab and make sure that Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power is not checked/ticked.

If you mean the light goes off on the stand alone modem attached to the router, then a call to your ISP would be the proper thing to do. I called my ISP, they said it sounded like I needed a new modem. I got one and the same thing happened. For me, it was not the modem, it was a weak signal which the technician at my home fixed.
