I have 2 computers ,one running vista and one running xp..
The problem is on the vista computer.
I can't connect to the internet, I can ping any website but cant' connect to the internet through a browser, or msn messenger, or any other prgram that tries to connect to the internet.
I tried running in safe mode with networking and still cannot connct to the internet.
My xp computer is plugged into the same router and modem the vista computer is on but the xp computer CAN connect to the computer but cannot connect on the vista computer....
So I don't think the problem can be the wires but just in case I tried unplugging all the cables and waited a awhile and that doesn't help.
I ran anti-virus programs, namely avast and norton anti-virus and tried adware but no bugs were found....
even tried replacing the winstock, but to no avail..

    Any advice????

I tried turning off the norton firewall and made sure windows firewall was off too, but still can't connect to the internet.
I'm not sure what you mean by browse by ip.
How do you check if your dns entry in the iponfig is wrong?

I'm not sure if this is helpful but I tried running advance system care> maintain windows> registry fix , and it showed 3 errors, but when I clicked the fix button and ran it again it produced the same 3 errors. Here are:

Hey steve thanks for all your help, really appreciate it..majorgeeks.com is awesome...

Anyways the problem seemed to be in the network connection, I knew something was blocking the internet connection but couldn't figured out what exactly was blocking it.

I had installed comodo firewall earlier on, but I found it wasn't right for me and I uninstalled it using windows unistaller, unfortunately windows unistaller didn't delete all the files and there a few files left over that was blocking the internet connection.

The problem was resolved by going to :
Control Panel> Network and Internet> Network and Sharing Centre, click on the "view status under the heading network 1( i think its your LAN)
a new window will pop up and uninstalling anything that that was related to comodo.
I tried connecting to the internet afterwards and it worked!!!
