Internet Disconnect

Hi, I have a D-Link DWL G-132 wireless adapter with a USB connection to my computer that I use for WIFI in my home. Every so often, the connection will drop, and the only thing that will re-establish the connection is if I repair it as shown in the screenshot below. Previously, someone suggested it might be my ethernet controller interfering. But I disabled it, and I am still having the problem. I also tried reinstalling the adapter drivers from D-Link's web site, but had trouble upgrading to the current driver, possibly because I wasn't able to uninstall all remnants of the old driver before installing the current one. I was referred to a program in this forum that would get rid of everything first, but I think the link for that program was expired, because that was the message. Does anyone have any ideas about what might be interrupting my connection? It isn't anything with the service, because my laptop usually connects just fine. Also, repairing the connection usually works on the first try, but sometimes it takes more than once. I have an idea that this will probably be something very difficult to diagnose, but I thought it was worth a try. Thank you. :)

    Lots of possibilities here.

Have you investigated the router? Rebooting the router is always the first step by shutting it off for a minute or two, then plugging it back in.

Did you install anything about the same time this happened?

Have you scanned for malware? http://www.majorgeeks.com/files/details/iobit_malware_fighter.html

As for the driver, understand there is more than one driver involved here, for example the motherboard drivers. You can go to device manager and remove the device and it will ask about drivers which you can remove. Make sure they are not in add\remove programs (or Programs) in Control Panel. Windows should detect the device and use the drivers it has so you have internet, then update all your drivers with Driver Booster http://www.majorgeeks.com/files/details/iobit_driver_booster.html

Just to clarify, this connection problem is ONLY occurring with your PC, right? Your notebook connects with no problems? And both connect via wireless?

If only the PC is having problems, the router is most likely good. But I agree resetting it (and the modem too) is a good idea. I would also scan the PC for malware, just to be sure that is not the problem.

Did it ever work right with this computer and this network configuration? How many walls, floors, ceilings and between the computer and WAP (wireless access point - integrated with router)?

Hi Digerati, yes, it only happens with my PC, not my laptop, and there aren't any walls interfering with the signal. I'm pretty sure it has something to do with the drivers, because as long as I have had this adapter I can remember this happening. It's just that this computer was in storage for a while, and I forgot about the problem. It isn't malware either, because I just fixed all that a couple weeks ago. Of course, I can continue to "repair" the adapter - or reset it it - it's just that this happens so often, that isn't really a solution. I know the adapter works. It just seems to have some type of bug associated with it. I will try to remove all the drivers manually and reinstall, I was just hoping and thinking first that there might be a program out there that would do that for me, and simplify things.

That does seem odd but in electronics there have always been gremlins and quirks and defy logic, and theory. In my radio maintenance days, we used to call it FM - but not for Frequency Modulation, but for a certain kind of magic! ;)

Since we are now learning this has always been a problem, I think if me, I would toss in a PCI or preferably a PCIe network card and see if that works. fortunately, even a 10/100/1000Mb/s PCIe card is pretty inexpensive so no big loss if not the problem.

I already have one of those installed. It's a D-Link DFE-530TX+ PCI Fast Ethernet Desktop Adapter. I have it disabled right now, because I wanted a wireless connection. You're saying just see if it works without a disconnect?

Sorry. I think I mixed up threads. It would be good to know if your computer stays connected via Ethernet but it looks like you wireless adapter is the problem and a different adapter should be tried.

You can certainly move closer (perhaps into the same room) to see if the connection holds. Reorienting antennas (if possible) may help. If internal antennas, you can try turning the router 90°.

Yes, I'm thinking of getting another adapter, but I was hoping to successfully install the latest driver first. I've tried a couple times, and I still end up with the earlier version - I don't know how. But I will try again, as Major Attitude describes below.

Related to this problem, the following error messages (below screenshots)show up every once in a while when I boot up. That's probably related to the drivers, too?

The ANIWZCS2 process is related to D-Link wireless hardware so that definitely seems to be the problem.

If me - I would find (borrow) a different brand adapter and install it and its drivers. This will force Windows to over-write all settings. If you can connect then, you might try then to uninstall this new adapter and re-install the D-Link (and drivers) which will then re-write all the settings again - hopefully correctly.

No adapter I can borrow, so I would have to buy one. I think first I will try uninstalling again, as Major Attitude recommended. I've done it twice already, but who knows, third time may be the charm. :)
