I don't know why. It was working ok one minute then it wasn't.

Actually it was like that this morning and I did a system restore. But I have been using it all day today. I am using a Dell Inspiron 6400, XP professional OS. I have just been loading on AVs, firewall etc and updating windows because this is a new HD. I have copied over Firefox and that is working fine. I ran CCleaner, Avira Antivirus, and Superantispyware and everything was clean.

Odd problem with a fresh reinstall.

Do you know what version of IE you have?

Try, go to start - all programs - accessories - system tools, and under there you will find Internet Explorer, (no add-ons)
    Does that one run?

That's funny. I found the list, but there is no Internet Explorer (no add ons).

I did a restore last night, and I can now get back onto IE, but its when I add on my AV, firewall and other protection programs that my computer gets stuffed up.

How much RAM do you have? What AV, firewall and other system protection?
What version of IE? If you did a restore, why would you add the AV and other protection, they would already be there???:wave:wave:confused

    Hi Brandypeppy:wave

    Intel(R) Core(TM) 2 CPU
    T5500 @ 1.66GHz
    1.66GHz, 1.99GB of RAM

AV is Avira Antivir Personal - Free
I also downloaded CCleaner, Spybot, SuperAntispyware and Spyware blaster and Comodo firewall and all these folders are sitting in the Programs folder.

    IE is version 6.0

I had to uninstall Avira because although it was in my Programs folder, I lost the icon from the lower right task bar, and when I opened up the Avira Folder, I couldn't get it to run. Same with Comodo and the others. But when I reinstall them they end up in the task bar and start working properly. Only then...my computer starts to get all f'd up.:confused

Are you running all of the parts/features of all of he programs you have listed? If you are, it is pssible they may be conflichting with each other.

I recommend you uninstall them all except CCleaner, which will not be interfered with by these other programs, then install Avira and then Comodo - but make sure you only select the firewall part NOT the antivirus part otherwise this will conflict with Avira. Make sure you also turn off Windows Firewall. Then download and install Malwarebytes Anti-Malware. This should be enough protection for you.

The key here is to have only one of everything running: ane antivirus, one firewall, one malware product (although malwarebytes free edition is not realtime).

You should also upgrade IE from ver. 6.

When you upgrade to 8, you'll get an install menu when you first use it. Many people have had problems when they select all of the options, (add-ons, filters, accelerators). I found that if I just say no or decline all of the options, and I mean all of them, IE 8 then works just fine.
