    We have windows xp home, dialup, norton internet security, have gone through your thorough cleaning before, run spybot and ad-ware se regularly. Recently Internet explorer keeps giving us the "Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and must shut down" message as soon as we start it upl We can run outlook express, instant messaging, ect, just not Internet explorer. I am using my daughters laptop to connect to you. Any suggestions? Went to microsofts website, no help, went to dell live support and those people know less than I do, don't know why I keep trying them!

    Is that the entire error message? Can you click on Details or does it offer anymore info?

    I'm pretty sure nothing else, could click on details, had several modules, whatever those mean, nothing in there I could understand

    They "might" help. If it is a Runtime error or a certain application causing it, try to list part of what it say's.

    the first message screen says, "Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the incenvenience." When I go to the detail box, I can get the following information and more, Exception Information
    Code: 0xc0000005 flags: 0x00000000
    Record: 0x000.... address: 0x000000005ff3452e

    There are 81 modules the first is iexplore,exe, the rest are different dll

    does this help?

    Also, when we run spybot, it finds Microsoft.WindowsSecurityCenter_disabled

    HKEY_Local_MACHINES\SYSTEM\CURRENTcONTROLsET\sERVICES\WSCSVC\sTART!=w=2

    I don't know if this is because of norton, we never had it before, but it shows up everytime I run spybot now.

    Sorry for the long delay, I had to connect the other computer to the internet, which means disconnecting this one, and the laptop closed down, my daughter hasn't entrusted me with her passwords!!!!

    1. Is Norton Internet Security fully updated?

    2. If you have the Google Toolbar installed, uninstall it and try IE.

    3. If you have NIS updated you might try disabling it and see if IE opens.
