Internet Explorer 7 or 8 help please?

    I have #7 running right now but it seems to have problems "crashing" is #8 any better or should I not waste my time with the hassle of switching to 8?

    Well how often does it crash and what kind of websites are you browsing when it does?

    I have XP home running and it crashes as soon as I open IE... can not even go to a website, it starts or does open msn homepage then crashes before I even get a chance to go anywhere. I went thru the malware procedures and Tim said my logs were clean.

    The current IE8 Beta release was not made for ordinary users and it is not ready for every-day use. Quoting Microsoft from Internet Explorer 8 Beta's homepage:

    Having said this, though, a number of users claim that they find IE8 even more stabil than IE7. There is no harm done in testing it yourself. You can always uninstall.

    More following on from Marks great suggestion and as you cannot open IE normally, this time goto Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools and click Internet Expolorer no-addons, this is like a safe mode IE, if that works the issue is likely with an add-on you have installed, main culprits are toolbars.

    Also what security programs do you have installed? too many of the same ilk can cause IE or applications to hang.

    Have you tried another browser to see if indeed its IEs problem or an add-on to IE, try a favorite of many in Firefox 3.0 this may narrow the issue down more.


    Running a beta to fix a problem is not best practice as you may end up with other issues, in many cases it still doesnt fix the problem as the cause is at times not IE but a erd party application and at least we know its not malware related.
