Hi, I just upgraded my Internet Explorer from IE6 to IE8. Prior to the upgrade, starting up IE6 was almost instantaneous. However, since upgrading to IE8, it takes close to 30secs just to load my homepage (google.com). It isn't my Internet connection problem, as when I use Firefox 3.5, my homepage loads up very quickly. I know that a common problem for IE8 is the add-ons, more specifically Spybot and SpywareBlaster. However, I have neither of those add-ons. Can someone give some advice as to improving the load speed of IE8? Much appreciated.

I've noticed a huge difference in the load time myself. I would recommend staying with IE6 or maybe upgrading to IE7. I wouldn't make the move to IE8 at all. I don't recommend it at this time.

Make sure you don't have any toolbars installed. For examle, Windows Live Toolbar, Yahoo Toolbar, Google Toolbar...

I would also highly recommend just using Firefox for all your needs. If you need IE for certain websites, you can use an add-on "IE Tab" which will allow you to use IE within Firefox.

    Hope this helps.

Do not stay with IE6. It has numerous security problems, and using it greatly increases the risk of your computer becoming infected.

One thing that can really slow down IE8 or even make it crash, is if there are a lot of 'add-ons' running while you are trying to browse, managing your add-ons can really speed up browsing. To fix try this:

In IE, go to ‘tools’ and ‘manage add-ons’.
Disabling any unnecessary add-ons may help your Internet run faster.
Try disabling add-ons with more than a .2 sec load time. (i.e. tool bars)
If you’re still not having any luck, I recommend you reinstall IE8 on your system.

Also, running 'compatibility mode' can dramatically speed up browsing. Some sites are not yet compliant with the new technology in IE8, so compatibility mode was included in IE8 to allow you to emulate IE7 to view the page. This link will show you how to do it:

    Good luck, hope this helps!
