Is there a way to turn on a sound of some sort so when an email is received you are alerted whilst you are using some other program?

 

Have you tried the Major Geeks Toolbar?

Doh! Sorry, you meant in some other program.

 

In outlook express
tools>options>general tab
tick 'playsound when new message arives'


Of course you have to have whichever email client you use running and set to check for every few minutes.

Some users like to put a shortcut to their client into the startup group on the programs list so that the programs starts automatically with Windows. Having it on all the time can cause problems if the internet connection is not reliable.
