I've been using Firefox for some time but I'm having problems with when I try and use it for e-mail in firefox it insists on opening up 50+ copies of internet explorer instead which are almost impossible to remove. Is there I way I can stop it from doing this?

which email service/company do you use? is it gmail? or some other form of web based email? or do you use a traditional email client, like thunderbird and use POP3 to collect your email? the operating system that is on your computer would also be nice to know. in the preferences / options for firefox, you can choose which program to use for dealing with email ( the mailto preference ) good luck with it.

I use Thunderbird as my primary email and just redirect everything to be sent to there as I have e-mails account with my primary internet provider and Google as well. My primary operating system in Windows 7 Xp. And in the mailto system in Firefox there only seem to be options for G-mail and Yahoo neither of which I use that regularly,or not at all in the case of Yahoo. I just want a way to do Internet Explorer to stop spamming me with endless pages,as the amount of pages it tries to open slowedthe system down to the extent that I had to log-out and log back to clear them all and when I opened up Task Manager there were about 50 Internet Explorer processes trying to open.

Clarify. Are you dual booting Windows 7 and XP?

that sounds about right when i looked at my firefox options, but there was an option to choose "other",
which just let me browse around and choose a program of my choice to deal with email. you should be able to click on "other" and browse to the location for the thunderbird executable, and set that as the default program for email. the only thing that makes any sense to me, is that if there is no default program set in firefox to deal with email, then windows is just coughing up hairballs because it doesn't know what to do when an email link is clicked on, and since IE is not set up to deal with email, and IE is probably microsoft's choice to deal with anything internet related, windows is just flailing its arms around and giving you those 14000 different IE windows. so maybe go into the firefox options and set a program to deal with the mailto links and see if that solves the IE problem. otherwise, i don't really know what else to suggest, besides good luck with it.

    Firefox > Tools > Options.
Scroll down to Applications and next to mailto select Use other...
At the bottom left of the window that opens click Browse...
    Find and select Thunderbird.
