    Hi,
lately when i load a new page in IE it uses 100% of the cpu until the page loads then goes back to normal. It's also taking a long time to load the pages. Could this be a bad cable connection? I installed process monitor and can post a log if that helps. Thanks.

You need to mention what version of windows and what version of IE you are using.

Also, do you have another browser on the computer to test? If so, how is usage when you run that?

Sorry. I have XP Home with Service Pack 3 and IE 8. Firefox definitely works faster but still uses up to 99% CPU, but it spends alot less time at that figure whereas IE seems to hang there for alot longer.

Thanks for the welcome. I ran Avira and it found one or two which I deleted but it hasn't helped IE. I will go through the malware removal procedure and get back to you. I've used this before when I've had problems but didn't think this was malware but I'll run it and see what turns up. Thanks.

I finally had the time to run throught the Majorgeeks anti-malware protocol and Malwarebytes found "PUM.Hijack.HomePageControl". When it found it I asked the program to remove it and then I toggled system restore just to be on the safe side. Now it's working like a dream again with IE at a max of 45%. Thanks for the help.

One question though: I have Avira real time protection and is it safe to keep Malwarebytes, Spybot, MG tools and Superantispyware as progams on the PC as well as Avira? Will there be any problems wth doing this?

I keep Malwarebytes and run it every week or so. Super-Antispyware the same time I run Malwarebytes. Spybot, without the tea timer to imunize. I use Avira also, free version. To add. I use zonelabs free firewall. Depending on the XP firewall is foolish.

In programs control for Zonelabs. I run thru it every once in a while and block any program from being a server.
